Bronze ring at Horspath Driftway/Blackstock Close corner (2011)
Berkeley Homes were required to provide a public work of art as a condition of their development of the former Territorial Army site. Planning permission (11/01410/FUL) was granted for this sculpture in 2011.
The sculpture is a one-metre diameter bronze ring sculpted by the artist blacksmith Melissa Cole. It is supported by nine spokes and welded on to a steel frame at a 20 degree angle.

The sculpture takes the form of a wheel (referring to the Horspath Driftway location) with an impression of footprints, tyre tracks, journeys, and symbols of individuals' lives and histories from the site. It includes references to the former use of the site as a Territorial Army centre, soldiers' journeys from the Boer War to the present day, a sixteenth-century coaching inn, and previous agricultural industries. |
