Painting of Headington Quarry by William Crotch (obtained 2024)

Painting by William Crotch

The above watercolour by William Crotch entitled “A House on the North Side of Headington Stone Quarries” was bought through crowdfunding by the Friends of Headington Quarry. It is signed on the back in the artist's hand stating that he painted it at 7pm on 4 August 1800, and as there was then no British Summer Time, this is the equivalent of 8pm.

The photograph below shows Sandy Rich of Tregeagle Fine Art (left) handing over the painting to Friends of Quarry members Richard Bradley (right) and Maurice East centre).
