Planning/meeting arrangements since May 2011

North East Area Forum

This new forum covers the same six Headington & Marston wards as the North-East Area Committee. Unlike that committee (which was abolished in May 2011), the North East Area Forum:

  • has no planning powers
  • only meets every three months
  • has action points rather than full minutes.

The first meeting was held on Tuesday 5 July 2011, when the focus for discussion was the sites which have been identified for potential housing development, including Headington car park.

Area Planning East

For applications that have been “called in” and major developments, Oxford now has just two planning committees: Area Planning East and West.

As well as covering the six city council wards of the former North-East (Headington & Marston) Area Committee, Area Planning East also covers the seven wards of the South-East and Cowley Area Committees.

This committee usually meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 5pm in the Town Hall. Local residents are welcome to attend and speak.

Planning applications online

The city council no longer sends out details about planning applications to neighbours or organizations.

Oxford City Council has improved its search facility for applications. If you register you can then track any of the following applications that interest you, and save frequently performed searches:

Additional meetings for individual wards

City ward councillors have each been given a yearly allowance of £1,500 to spend on their ward, and some of this money can be spent on ward meetings.

  • Central Headington ward. The two ward city councillors are holding nine focus meetings a year for the people who live in their ward. These are less formal than area committee meetings: they last for two hours (6–8pm) and then adjourn to a local pub.

No information is yet available for the other five wards of the North-East Area Committee.
