Inscriptions: Manor Hospital

Manor Hospital plaque

The above inscription on front of the Manor Hospital in Beech Road reads:

THE MANOR HOSPITAL
OXFORD
THIS FOUNDATION STONE WAS LAID
ON 16TH SEPTEMBER 2003
BY
MR DOUGLAS GARDNER
CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF GOVERNORS
NUFFIELD HOSPITALS

The Manor Hospital was built to replace the old Acland Hospital, and stands on Headington’s former Manor Ground football stadium

The Section 106 Planning Obligation signed on behalf of Oxford United Football Club included a financial contribution to a work of public art for the site. The result was the sculpture below by Diana Bell, which provides a visual history of the site.
