Turn Again Lane

The above plaque, in Turn Again Lane, reads:

8, 9 & 10
TURN AGAIN LANE

In 1971 Oxford Preservation
Trust purchased these three
listed seventeenth-century
houses to save them from
demolition. The restored houses
received a Civic Trust European
Architectural Heritage Year
Award in 1975.

The houses that were saved from the city council’s demolition plans are on the left in the picture below:

Turn Again Lane

The old name for this lane was revived in 1972 after it had been known as Charles Street for many years. The office of the Oxford Preservation Trust is now at No. 10.
