Philip the Miller
Mayor of Oxford 1209, 1214
Philip the Miller (or Molendinarius / Le mullner / Le muner) is known to have been Mayor in the years 1209 and 1214. His name implies that he was a miller.
Although Mayors normally held office for life, Philip was deposed from the council by 1216 for his share in the hanging of the clerks.
Another Philip Molendinarius (who had a brother Robert Molendarius) was Bailiff on the council in 1229: he may have been the Mayor’s son.
