King Edward Street

King Edward Street is flanked by 108 and 109 High Street and leads southwards to Oriel Square. This street did not exist until 1873, with the result that it is much wider than other streets running off the High
The original 109 and 110 High Street stood on the gap where this road now lies. The old shops at Nos. 108 and 111/112 on each side of the new road also had to be demolished and rebuilt, and to preserve the continuity the new shop on the right was given the number 109–112 , giving the misleading impression that the road had always been here. The road was given the name of King Edward Street when it was opened in 1873.
