Cornmarket: St Michael at the Northgate

s

St Michael at the Northgate Church in Cornmarket, one of the oldest churches in Oxford, is recorded in the Domesday Book. Its tower, shown on the right of this postcard, was built around 1050 and is Oxford's oldest remaining building: it marks the position of the city's old North Gate.

The church with a tower further away to the north is St Mary Magdalene.
