The lowered wall beside Bury Knowle Park

The path by Somerfield

The path that runs from London Road to North Place (flanked by Bury Knowle Park to the east and the Old High Street carpark to the west) on Saturday 26 February 2005. The city council lowered this car-park wall at the end of February 2005, which has made it much safer.

This footpath is one of the few remaining sections of the old funeral route from Quarry to St Andrew’s Church, and was the source of great quarrels in the nineteenth century. It pre-dates the London Road itself by four hundred years.
