Cycle track to Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre
A short cycle track/footpath (marked with blue dots on the above map) offers a route from central Headington to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Old Road. It is also accessible from Mattock Close.
From the London Road:
- Go down either New High Street or Kennett Road (the latter has a contra-flow cycle lane)
- Near the bottom of New High Street, or at the end of Kennett Road, turn left into Bateman Street
- Turn right into Gardiner Street, and the the track is at the end on the right.
You will find yourself almost immediately in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
Note that this track is closed at night.
If you live between Windmill Road and New High Street, this track is useful if you take one of the Old Road buses to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre as it offers the quickest route home.
It is probably best to locate the footpath from the London Road end first, as it is not signposted from the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

There is a tiny communal garden beside the track which Low Carbon Headington planted with fruit trees. These were vandalized in April 2011:
- Oxford Mail, 28 September 2010: “Project is apple of pupils’ eyes”
- Oxford Mail, 21 April 2011: “Vandals snap hospital saplings in half”
