These crosses of soldiers who died at Cowley Barracks between 1877 and 1885 are in the churchyard of Cowley St James Church (which used to be the regimental chapel of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry).

All the deaths were reg. in the Headington registration district except for these two:

John Freeman: he may be the James Freeman whose death at the age of 25 was recorded in the Headington district in the second quarter of 1879.

John Grant: he may be the Henry John Grant whose death at the age of 43 was recorded in the Headington district in the first quarter of 1892
