Merewood Terrace, Sandhills

Merewood Terrace

The above postcard was sent by the Clarke family of 11 Merewood Terrace in 1947, but the photograph was probably taken in the late 1930s.

The text on the back reads:

I thought you would like to see a picture of our ‘country seat’. This is quite a nice spot to be in, it is high with plenty of wide open spaces. I do very well for shopping at the 3 little shops in our road.

Charles Clarke is listed at 4 Merewood Avenue in Kelly’s Directory for 1952.

Delbush Avenue, Sandhills

The above postcard shows Delbush Avenue. The shop on the left is Horwood’s General Stores at No. 2A. Kelly’s Directory for 1935 shows Alfred Horwood as the grocer, tobacconist & confectioner here. By 1947 Mrs A. E. Buckingham was the proprietor.
