Heritage Open Days 2008: two Headington Eco-houses open on Friday 12 and Sunday 14 September, 11am–5pm:
Launch of Low-Carbon Headington
Low-Carbon Headington was launched on Wednesday 23 April 2008 at Headington Baptist Church, where the speakers were Mark Lynas; Vicky Harris on behalf of Low-Carbon Wolvercote; and David Rundle, city councillor for Headington Ward and now leader of the Liberal Democrats on the city council.
The second "Low-carbon Headington" meeting was held on Monday 2 June in the Methodist Church Hall, New High Street, and the following small groups were formed to take forward ideas for Headington:

- Recycling & reusing
- Transport

Streets for People
Streets for People, also known as European Car Free Day, takes place throughout Europe each year on 22 September. In 2008 the day falls on a Monday, although some events may be arranged in Headington on the preceding Saturday, 20 September.

Examples of low-carbon living in Headington
Averil Stedeford won the Observer Ethical Award of 2006. She has turned her Headington semi into an environmentally friendly house, with a wind turbine above the roof, photo-voltaic cells to convert light to electricity, solar panels to heat water, and an underground storage tank for rainwater.

Gavin Killip has transformed the energy use and carbon emissions of an Edwardian house in Holyoake Road. The major features have been retained, whilst excellent insulation, good heating system and low energy lights and appliances reduce carbon emissions by around 50%. This house was opened for the Heritage Open Days and for Ecovation in 2007.
