HEADINGTON ACTION

Low Carbon Headington, 2 June 2008:
"Events" Group notes

A. Headington Festival – make it a Low-Carbon Festival by:

  • collecting as much rubbish as possible for recycling
  • attempting to use green energy for the event
  • having a Low-Carbon stall focussed on self-help advice
  • increasing the number of activities like toys made from rubbish

B. Car-Free Day – have a series of events on 20th September 2008, including:

  • road closures / street parties – suggested streets, as well as the All Saints area, are Stephen Road (Antonio Bianchini), Bateman Street (Katie Wilson), and Holyoake Road (Maria Mansfield) – information on the procedures needed for road closures can be provided by Tony Joyce
  • swap-shops on streets (advertised with green balloons)
  • asking bus companies to have cheap fares to Headington
  • having eye-catching activities on the London Road like a party around the underpass, and games at the corner of Old High Street
  • pedal-power local fruit smoothies, perhaps at the Juice Bar
  • have banners at the Somerfield car-park, perhaps with a Prius or other green forms of transport on show
  • give out bags to customers so they don’t have to take any from the supermarkets

C. Monthly events, perhaps connected with the Farmers’ Market:

  • plant stall
  • a recycling stall, where clothes etc can be brought
  • bicycle doctor

The group included: Antonio Bianchini, Maria Mansfield, Katie Wilson and David Rundle.
