"Events" Group notes
A. Headington Festival – make it a Low-Carbon Festival by:
- collecting as much rubbish as possible for recycling
- attempting to use green energy for the event
- having a Low-Carbon stall focussed on self-help advice
- increasing the number of activities like toys made from rubbish
B. Car-Free Day – have a series of events on 20th September 2008, including:
- road closures / street parties – suggested streets, as well as the All Saints area, are Stephen Road (Antonio Bianchini), Bateman Street (Katie Wilson), and Holyoake Road (Maria Mansfield) – information on the procedures needed for road closures can be provided by Tony Joyce
- swap-shops on streets (advertised with green balloons)
- asking bus companies to have cheap fares to Headington
- having eye-catching activities on the London Road like a party around the underpass, and games at the corner of Old High Street
- pedal-power local fruit smoothies, perhaps at the Juice Bar
- have banners at the Somerfield car-park, perhaps with a Prius or other green forms of transport on show
- give out bags to customers so they don’t have to take any from the supermarkets
C. Monthly events, perhaps connected with the Farmers’ Market:
- plant stall
- a recycling stall, where clothes etc can be brought
- bicycle doctor
