Syllabuses
We undertake the formalities of examination entry for all full-time students. Those re-sitting an entire subject usually opt for the board and syllabus they followed in their previous establishment. In other cases, we advise students on choice of board, syllabus, and options.
When students come to us for supplementary tuition, there may seem no call for such advice: their syllabus etc. has already been chosen by their main school. But in contrast to the straightforward linear system dominant a decade ago, the present A-level structure is both more complex and more flexible. Hence we offer advice on which subjects students should carry over from A/S to A2, and on the advisability of re-sitting a particular module.
We also offer advice on GCSE courses, which have had less of an overhaul than A-levels recently. However, some boards offer modular options in certain subjects. The opportunity to sit (or re-sit) examinations in November or January is now much narrower than a decade ago, confined practically to English and to Mathematics. In this sense, GCSE candidates have less flexibility at the very time when those taking A-level have more.
